Sanctuary Retreats experience, Africa. By Catherine Stone

I’ve been very fortunate to visit many places around the world, but my adventure to Zambia last month was truly something special. Just 12km upstream from the world-famous Victoria Falls, lays the Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma Lodge on the bend of the Zambezi River, which is, without a doubt, one of the most magical places I’ve ever stayed.

Upon arrival at this incredible lodge, I was instantly struck by the natural beauty surrounding me. You can take a breath-taking sunset cruise along the Zambezi River, see the magnificent Rhino’s on a walking safari, or be guided on a life changing tour of the incredible Victoria Falls.

Chuma Lodge is comprised of 12 luxury tree houses connected by wooden walkways, built within the canopy of the enormous ebony trees. It was here that we enjoyed a refreshing swim in the pool while watching the hippo’s fight in the wild.

If experiencing the culture more your kind of thing you cansanctuaryretreats2
take a school and village tour or get on a bike and ride
through the local town. Chuma Lodge is the
only lodge in the area to offer guided walking safaris,
and I promise, you will not be disappointed.

Throughout our stay, we were looked after very well, with all meals and drinks included in the cost. Sanctuary retreats are also situated all over Africa. If you stay a few nights extra you can take advantage of the special accommodation rates. The beauty of the pay less stay longer rates is that you do not have to stay at the one camp/lodge to qualify for the cheaper nightly rates, and in some cases, it is cheaper for you to stay for 8 nights than it is to stay for 6, and in all cases, 8 nights are cheaper than staying for 7.

It was an incredible trip to such a beautiful area of Africa. A definite must for the bucket list.
